BIO / ARTIST STATEMENT

I am a multidisciplinary artist and founder of eto YA* studio. Throughout my life, I have been involved in a variety of creative activities: dance, drama performance, modelling, fashion, art and crafts. To me, they all come from one creative landscape and allow for a holistic approach.

Through my art, I explore the depths of the human spirit and the profound sense of liberation that comes from within. True happiness is a state of being that is not dictated by circumstances but cultivated through self-awareness and acceptance. It is the freedom to be authentically oneself, to live a life aligned with one's values and passions. 

I am also interested in how art fits into spaces and interiors, turning boring, unremarkable into surreal and comical, and portraying the simple, graceful beauty of nature.

I am an experienced educator and presenter with over 20 years’ experience. I strive to connect with my students in a supportive and meaningful way. A good teacher will get students to gasp in wonder when after having produced something extraordinary, something they didn’t even know they could do. This is what I aim at when I teach.

At DVAS I offer workshops in art history, traditional folk art, basics of composition, art as a mindfulness practice, and also volunteer as a Thursday Night Workshop convener.

I have worked in acrylics and mixed media for many years. I have also worked in watercolour, alcohol ink, done glass art, water marbling, collagraph and linocut printing. I am currently concentrating on drawing and textile art.
